This “real-time stretching” algorithm lets you play rhythmic content up and down the keyboard while preserving the dynamics of the original. My personal favorite definitely has to be the Time Machine mode, available in three different flavors, including Time Machine 2 and Time Machine Pro modes.Īll of these allow you to change the pitch of a sample without affecting the playback speed. Under the hood, within the “Source Module” at the very beginning of the signal chain, there are six “playback modes” that process audio differently, the first being a traditional “Sampler” mode that plays back audio from memory, though “DFD” (direct from disk) mode is a far more practical way of streaming audio from disk in real-time without the computational expenditure of loading all sample data into RAM. In this review, we’ll be going deeper into the sample engine to really explore the sonic possibilities that will open up to you with a marginal amount of research and a much-advised spirit of adventure. It fulfills that purpose in more ways than I care to mention, but there’s more to Kontakt than you might think. I used to view Kontakt as nothing more than a great big environment for multi-sampled instruments. Product page: Native Instruments Kontakt ($399) That being said, you might be wondering why (years after its initial release) a Kontakt review needs to exist, aside from the fact that Bedroom Producers Blog hasn’t reviewed it yet, even though we publish news of free and also commercial Kontakt libraries on a semi-regular basis (Don’t believe us? Well, here’s your proof!). During that time, it has been showered with high praise and deservedly so. For well over a decade, producers, sound designers, and professional mix engineers have made expert use of it.

This does not only mean that a majority of people worldwide live in cities, but also that cities are increasingly becoming larger and more complex. Urban Data Analytics 2 Course introductionįor the first time in history, more than half of the world’s population lives in urban areas. Online recorded lectures Live plenary sessions Live Q&A sessions In-class/online workshops Exercises Self-study The statistical software that will be used in this course is STATA 16. Descriptive statistics (measures of central tendency, measures of spread, correlation).Introduction to quantitative data analysis. The course introduces participants to basic data analytics and entails the following seven sessions: Understand how quantitative data analysis output is interpreted, find meaning in the data, and learn how findings can be translated into policy recommendations and/or reflection on theory.Understand the basics of regression analysis using the ordinary-least-squares method and apply the knowledge in practice using statistical software.Comprehend the power of random sampling and how to use that information for hypothesis testing.Be able to use and explain the main tools of descriptive data analysis and visualisation and apply these in practice using statistical software.Identify situations in which quantitative data analysis provides useful information in an urban context.Understand what quantitative data analysis entails and how it differs from qualitative data analysis.More specifically, after following UDA students should have achieved the following learning objectives: The aim of this course is to equip participants with a basic tool set that will capacitate them to work with data and interpret results for testing and refining theory as well as supporting evidence-based policy making. Students will also learn how to present descriptive statistics and data visualisation in academic studies. The focus is, besides understanding, on working with real data and practicing how to conduct data analyses, which students learn in workshops and with exercises. The course begins with introducing students to quantitative data analysis (compared to qualitative data analysis), and continues with lectures on descriptive statistics and data visualisation. This course will teach students how to harness the power of quantitative urban data by mastering the way they are prepared, visualised and analysed. Urban Data Analytics 1 Course introduction One of the best early options is MagicPrefs. MultiClutch have been released to increase the functionality of Apple’s multitouch trackpads, we’ve started to see similar utilities for the Magic Mouse. Thankfully, just as a number of utilities such as If you have a Magic Mouse, you need this.Magic Mouse, with its multitouch functionality, is quite a step up from Apple’s previous models, but many users wish they could do more with that feature-the Magic Mouse’s multitouch surface is currently limited to scrolling, zooming the screen, and two-finger swiping (to, say, cycle through photos in Preview or iPhoto). This is hardly surprising given that the other ones were awful, and this one is good. Recent reports indicate that the Mighty Mouse is selling better than any mouse in Apple’s history. He also promises that it uses less than 1% of system resources running in the background all the time. And the developer promises that it will always be available for free (though he does accept PayPal donations on his site). MagicPrefs is perfect example of software making hardware better. There is also a setting to increase or decrease the touch sensitivity of the device. With MagicPrefs, you also get the ability to improve the Mighty Mouse tracking speed by up to 200%. This is especially a problem for users with the new 27″ iMacs (which come with the Magic Mouse) and/or two monitors (that’s a lot of screen real estate to cover). A number of users have complained that the tracking speed on the Magic Mouse is too slow, even at the fastest setting. It’s so natural, and makes so much sense, that I’m even more dumbfounded as to why Apple wouldn’t just build some of these gestures into the device’s software (and I suspect they will in the future via updates).Īnd there’s actually more. I now have easy access to things such as Expose, Dashboard, and Spaces right from the Mighty Mouse. Still, after playing around with all the actions and finding the ones that I like and am comfortable using, MagicPrefs is extremely powerful. Even an obvious action like two-finger click is hard to use because most people will have two fingers resting on the mouse at all times, and when they do a left or right click, the multi-touch top senses the other finger’s presence and will think you’re doing a two-finger click. In my experience with the program, it’s a pretty good idea to follow these recommendations and stay away from the harder to use ones. It’s important to note that a number of actions in both the Swipes and Drag,Pinch, etc areas are labeled with a “*,” meaning they are “potentially hard to use.” There are also some of the Clicks & Taps functions that have this warning. Another allows you to tap logo to enable something. Two options allow you to drag your finger from the logo left or right to enable some action. Interestingly, there are also options for the Apple logo near the bottom of the Magic Mouse. Similar options also exist for swipes (wiping you fingers across the top of the Magic Mouse, and pinching (pushing two fingers together on the top of the device or pushing them apart). Clicking on the checkbox to enable any of these also shows you a picture of exactly how the function works on the Magic Mouse. There are also all of those options and then some for “taps” which is essentially touching the top of the Magic Mouse without clicking on it. MagicPrefs has options that allow you to set actions for two-finger clicks, three-finger clicks, four-finger clicks, and one-finger middle axis clicks. Clicks & Taps are the ones that are likely to be most useful to you, as they’re the ones that are the easiest to use, and get use to. It gives you a boatload of new multi-touch options for your Magic Mouse, broken into three main categories: Clicks & Taps, Swipes, and Drag, Pinch, etc. MagicPrefs, which is made by developer Vlad Alexa, is a free piece of software that runs in the background once you start it up. (And yes, it’s fully multi-touch capable.) A new third-party program called MagicPrefs, enables all the multi-touch capabilities you could ever want for the device - and even some you likely don’t. Apple gave its new mouse multi-touch capabilities, but only takes advantage of a fraction of what it can do. Back in November, I wrote up a review of the new Magic Mouse, noting that it was “ Apple’s best mouse ever, but…” Essentially, the problem is a software one. When you roll Dicey, time stops and you gain energy, based on the number you’ve rolled with Dicey. Now this is where combat really finds its edge. Once enough crystals have been collected by Even you are able to throw Dicey as a roll. The catch is that none of these do actual damage to the enemies themselves, but you can use it to knock off energy crystals. Even is only armed with a slingshot that can hit enemies from afar. You see, as Even herself you can’t really deal damage to opponents once you get drawn into a battle encounter. Lost in Random is a mixup of a card-based battle game and a third person RPG. Domino pieces line the streets, cards function as spawn points for enemies and even during combat you will be moving around gigantic pawns and game pieces to advance. That’s before you get to the decorations, which are each clearly inspired by board games. It’s these touches that makes Random truly a joy to explore because of its fleshed out worldbuilding. While I wasn’t able to visit the next city Threedom, there were already hints about the place in Two-Town, suggesting it was ruled by three rivaling siblings claiming ownership of the city. Even the town itself has two majors that have divided up parts of the town itself. Some of them have actual twins, while others swap personalities from time to time. But my time with the game started to get even more impressive when exploring Two-Town, a place where every character has a split personality of some kind. The starting town where Even and Odd live, Onecroft, is clearly designed as a shipping port with all the buildings being based on kettles and pots. During my time with the demo I was able to visit two of the six major cities from the game and each one felt distinct and different. From the creative character designs of the townsfolk to it’s world in general. Much akin to the work of film studio Laika and The Nightmare Before Christmas, it uses every opportunity of it’s artstyle to surprise and amaze. The game looks like a stop-motion animation film come to life. The most striking feature of Lost in Random is it’s gorgeous art design. Along the way they explore the six different worlds in Random and meet a cast of quirky characters. Together the two must make their way through Random to reach the palace of the Queen and find a way to save Odd. It walks on two legs and talks in a mysterious language. Here she finds Dicey, the only surviving dice from a long lasting war. Unfortunately for Even, she gets taken away to the lost battlefield of the dice. Even, however, can’t sit by and decides to head out after Odd. Odd rolls a six and is taken away to live with the Queen in her palace. Lost in Random tells the story of Even, a little girl who gets separated from her older sister Odd when she rolls the Queen of Random’s magical dice on her 12th birthday. While it’s still unclear to me how well this game will perform on the NIntendo Switch, it’s core gameplay and world shined in my first four hours with the game. EA gave me the opportunity to go hands on with an early PC build of the game. It’s world and characters were clearly based on all sorts of board and card games, fitting of a place called Random. The game immediately caught my attention with its gorgeous visual style, clearly inspired by gothic stop-motion films like Coraline and 9. Zoink! Games revealed Lost in Random last year during their EA Play showcase. Jumbline 2 is ideal for anyone who loves word games. Scramble and twist your brain to make words from jumbled lines of letters. Using the plotting code: x = linspace(-3*pi, 3*pi, 200) Īx.XAxis.MinorTickValues = ax.XAxis.Limits(1):pi/6:ax.XAxis. Let us first define F(φ,a): function out = F(p, a) This is the code for case of γ = 0.1: hold on What I do know is that the evolution of φ(t) must be continuous. 1 Usually, when solving a 1st-order ODE, one needs 1 initial condition, without which the problem is under-defined. My problem is I don't know what inputs to give ode45 in terms of the bounds and the initial condition. Thus, piecewise mimics an if-else ladder. Here is the definition of the F(φ) function: -φ/a - π/a, if φ ∈ A piecewise expression returns the value of the first true condition and disregards any following true expressions. Recent versions include a piecewise command that lets you define the function symbolically. I need to create a program that outputs 6 plots of φ(t) for different values of γ ( γ = 0.1, 0.5, 0.95, 1.05, 2, 5), and t∈. A simple way to plot piecewise functions in MATLAB is to plot each interval separately, using the hold command between plot calls. The MATLAB provides a built-in function “piecewise” which takes the equations and conditions as an argument and returns a piecewise expression.I have a function dφ/dt = γ - F(φ) (where F(φ) - a is 2π-periodic function) and the graph of the function F(φ). Pass the plotcommand the input and output arrays. # Plotting Piecewise function using switch case statements If the ‘case’ condition is true, then that means x lies in the interval specified by that case expression and the appropriate statements will be executed. 1 Chaining equalities like that is only supported in very recent MATLAB. First of all, the case expressions check the value of x. We have separated the intervals of different sub-functions in different cases. It is almost similar to the above method but in this case, we have replaced the if-else with switch-case statements. Output: Figure 3 using switch-case statements The plot(x, result) command plots the values in variable “result” against ‘x’. The values calculated are stored into an array ‘result’ which represents the piecewise function values with respect to input (x). In this case, the body of the if statement consists of only one statement which is ” result = x.^2 “. As the value of x lies in the (0,2] interval, therefore, the x will enter into the body of the 2nd elseif condition. Here, if-else conditions are used to check the interval where the input(x) lies. Ideally, this function should be the same as the function that takes a point at the right-most point to the left-most point. The “piecewise_function” takes the value and check the conditions of if-else statements. Matlab Plotting moved here Functions In mathematics, a piecewise function (or piecewise function) is a function that computes the value of a given function at given points. Then, we have used a for loop which iterates over an array x and passes these values to the “piecewise_function”. You don't have to create piecewise linear functions by yourself. Matlab is a mathematical programming language. Matlab draws straight lines from one coordinate to the next coordinate. The array x specifies the range of values on which we want to obtain the results of the piecewise function. All plots are piecewise linear functions. We can also use “linspace” command to create an array. In this code, we have created an array “x” by using the colon operator. % create a function to plot piecewise function %iterate over the elements in x one-by-one and calculate the value of f(x) % Plotting piecewise function using if else statements. In this method, we’ll define all the sub-functions along with the constraints using if-else statements and then we will plot the piecewise function. The second method involves the use of if-else statements along with for loop. Output: Figure 2 using if-else statements The graph in fig 2 shows the output obtained as a result of the plot(x, y) command. The plot(x, y) command then plots y against x. Then, we have created an array using all the intervals i.e., ‘x’ and an array of ‘y’ representing the different equation values. In the code given above, eq1, eq2, and eq3 represent the three equations whereas x1, x2, and x3 define the intervals for their respective equations. Yes, you all guessed right, it is 30 - 60 sec delay for B+ supply. The drive transistor would require an appropriately sized base resistor.īipolar power transistor or Darlington, again with an appropriately sized base resistor.įET with a small gate resistor to limit the gate capacitance charging current when the 7555's output switches. Thanks to all who replied. The 7555 may struggle to provide enough current to drive the relay coil directly. Probably best to drive the relay coil via a transistor such as a BC337 rather than direct from the 7555's output. You have several options when it comes to designing the output motor drive stage: This may cause some rapid output pulses when the switch is pressed but is probably unimportant on the time scale of starting a motor. There will be some switch bounce when the switch is pressed which will probably last for 10 or 20 milliseconds. The Trigger pin is also taken low at this time but the reset pin (pin 4) overrides the Trigger pin (pin 2). If the switch were to be released before the end of the 1 second timed period then the reset pin is pulled low forcing the timer's output to go immediately low. If it were to be below 4 V at the end of the 1 second output pulse (and the switch was still pressed holding the reset pin high) then the timer's output would remain high. It is necessary to take the Trigger pin high after triggering. After about 1 second, pins 6 & 7 reach a voltage equal to about 8 V causing the output to go low even though the switch is still pressed. This triggers the timer, the output goes high and C4 starts to charge through R1. So the trigger pin is held low for a short time after the reset pin is disabled. When the switch is pressed, the reset pin is pulled high and the trigger pin (pin 2) follows it after a short delay caused by R2 & C3. You could give the following circuit a whirl.Īt power-up and at rest the reset pin (pin 4) is pulled low by R3 keeping the output (pin 3) low. Probably not good design practice to switch the 555's supply voltage, it'll probably give the poor little thing a headache! The one question I had is regarding the flyback diode that suggested - is the diode D1 in the correct position and orientation for this? What does this actually do? Does it protect my 555 in this case from getting increased voltage on the output pin when the relay is shut I still want to use the relay here in addition to the 555 because the DC motor pulls a higher current from the stop-to-start and I wasn't sure the 555 could handle something that might be a very brief 4-6A draw - so I figured using the 555 to trigger the relay might be the safer way to go? This seems to work practically, but if there is any feedback on this I'm of course open to hearing. I can of course change the time before shutdown by increasing R1 to create a longer delay before it shuts down. The below seems to work, where closing the switch turns on the relay (closing the relay switch and powering the load - a motor in this diagram), then it turns off after a short time. Thank you everyone for the informative replies! After reading, I decided to try this using a 555 IC instead of just the R-C circuit to trigger the relay. Simulate this circuit – Schematic created using CircuitLab Is my problem that the R2 resistance is dropping the voltage too much before it even hits the capacitor and relay? I used a multimeter to measure voltage drops across R2, RLY, and C1 and the C1/RLY only seem to use 0.8V or so which explains partially why the RLY isn't turning on. 001 * 1000 = 1, but using the setup below, the relay never engages. I thought the RC time constant would be 1 sec since C1*R2 =. I have D2 connected to the RLY's "normally closed" output, so when I turn on the switch, D2 also turns on, but it never turns off like I want it to. Power source = 12VDC laptop-style power brick, which actually supplies closer to 12.5VDC, rated 8A. If I'm reading the datasheet correctly, it seems this is a 12VDC relay, but the coil activates around 9VDC? So if switch is closed for 3 seconds, this LED should only be on for the first 1 second. This is working as expected right now.ĭ2 = the LED I want to turn on immediately when switch is closed, but I want it to turn off after 1 second if the switch is kept closed. This should be on when switch closed, off when switch open. Below is a diagram of what I've attempted but it doesn't work and I'm not sure what I need to do to fix it.ĭ1 = an indicator LED just to let me know the switch works. I'm trying to design a circuit that uses a momentary switch/push button to turn on an LED, then it turns off after 1 sec if the switch is held in the ON position longer than that. Tfishell: Maybe use ResidualVM? Looks like an interesting last-ditch option to try, but I'd ultimately prefer to get the original game to run as-is than rely on a 3rd party interpreter if possible. One other detail: My game version right off the DVD is "Version 1.27 (177) ML DVD" as claimed by the launcher dialogue. The URL you posted seems to bring up a 404 not found error, so I couldn't check that out. I also have standalone Myst IV: Revelation on DVD but have not installed that one yet. Yeah, I searched around a bit and didn't find any solid sounding solutions so I thought to poll the community here as well. I am pretty sure I have at least "Ages of Myst" which has only Myst 1-2, but I thought I have also another collection including the third game as well, maybe even the same collection as you. I am unsure which Myst collection I have. Could Quicktime be the culprit? Some say they chose to install it with the game, some didn't: Timppu: Have you googled for it? At least here seems to be some older discussion, and I think I saw someone saying at least there having also Myst 3 running on Windows 7, but then many others didn't seem to be as lucky, if I understood correctly. I would just rebuy the game on GOG ready to use if it actually existed on GOG, but sadly it is one of the Myst games that exists in a black-hole outside of the reach of GOG still.Īs such, I'm wondering if anyone has had experience trying to get this game to work on Windows 7 圆4 and/or newer operating systems and if they have any tips to proffer that might be some useful secret sauce. If I click on the game on the taskbar it comes back into focus and appears to stay in focus, however now the mouse no longer works so you can't interact with it at all. The game has not crashed and is still running, it has just shifted out of focus. but as soon as I move the mouse slightly it switches out of the game back to my desktop. I haven't really changed anything but I did reboot my computer a day or so ago and now the game will actually launch even though I didn't change anything. I've tinkered around with shortcut compatibility options a bit but was unable to get the game to launch. Recently, I decided to try installing Exile to check it out again and to my dismay the game does not run out of the box on Windows 7 圆4 sadly.
